We are SUPER DUPER excited to announce that our new photos are finally up on the website! We've been grappling with photos since before our launch in December last year...it's crazy how tricky it is to take high quality flat lay pictures (all the professional photographers are rolling their eyes in unison now...sorry guys!!)
We had a very lovely and talented photographer friend Kerry Bardot take our first round of pics. She's a natural light photographer who specialises in children, families and weddings. She did an excellent job with the pictures and light but sadly our styling skills were remiss on our first crack and we had some rotated labels and crooked lay outs. Oops!
We knew we could do better and we also knew how important the photos would be for the business. And so in 41 degree heat and at 32 weeks pregnant, one half of The Small Batch Gift Co had another shot at getting the shots. Assisted by her brother-in-law, a professional surveyor with an eagle-eye for detail, the flat lays pics were re-taken. The styling was spot on this time but sadly the equipment let us down: the rarely-used SLR was broken and couldn't take raw files. This meant we couldn't adjust the colours properly during editing and the photos ended up with an inconsistent and strangely yellow colour.
We couldn't delay our launch and had to run with a set of photos, but we weren't happy with them and knew that our first investment for 2017 would be some professional product photography. Enter the lovely Kat from Zahra Creative! We met with Kat and talked about our vision for the flat lays and also some lifestyle pictures to show case our products in a gorgeous home environment. We were so lucky that Lauren from The Other Lauren allowed us to use her stunning home for the photo shoot. Her furniture and furnishings worked perfectly with our products are we couldn't be happier with the results...yay!
