Today we want to talk a bit about why we are so passionate about Australian made products, and why we only stock things that are crafted right here in Oz. When we were deciding what we wanted our brand to be about, one of the most important things to us was where the product was made. In fact, when it came down to it, we decided that this would be our key differentiator in the market.
So what's the difference between "Australian products" and "Australian made"? Sometimes you will see businesses talk about "Australian products" or they will market their products as "proudly Australian".
"Many companies and retailers...are marketing their products with a veneer of 'Australian-ness', which can be misleading. Iconic Australian names...coupled with claims such as ... 'Australian owned', 'classic Australian' and so on, give the impression the product is made here when in fact it may be fully imported".
Often in these cases the business is run in Australia and maybe the products are even designed here, but the manufacturing is done off-shore, commonly in China. There are lots of reasons that items are manufactured elsewhere, and we certainly aren't experts on all of those reasons, but economies of scale and costs are a big factor. We aren't saying that products that are manufactured off shore aren't good-we own a lot of these items ourselves!
But we do want our business to be about supporting local people making products right here in Australia. Often in their own houses or studios. Because buying things that are made here keeps people in Australia employed, doing the things that they are passionate about. We love the stories behind each of our makers and we love doing business directly with these awesome people. And we get so excited about bringing these products and stories to you!
